Bridgewater Football Prepares for ODAC Opener

Bridgewater football coming off a really
good win 37 22 on the road against probably one of the tougher teams on
your schedule and Stevenson I’ll start with the defense they pitched a shutout
in the first half and you know that opening drive Stevenson looked like
they were stamping out a long clock killing tribe and Gary ramey and anthony
Morris get a sack that forced them out of field goal range they don’t even get
any points you guys take the lead and then re’shawn Myers he has a sack on
third down leads to another touchdown you’re up two scores and then another
Meyers sack right before half-time allowed you to go to the two-minute
drill and go up 23 nothing getting into the break well I think good teams you
find your offense and your defense playing off each other and I think that
showed a little bit on Saturday in different times in the game up there and
is I want to talk to the defense on Monday morning and you talked about that
first drive we’ve got enough players if you make somebody go 14 plays eventually
somebody in our group will step up and that’s what you saw happen in that play
and I think if we go out and you know continue to do that and just they don’t
give them the explosion play just don’t give them the chunk I think eventually
we got enough playmakers on the field I thought it was really just an
outstanding offensive performance you know to be five for five in the red zone
with all of them being touchdowns to not turn the ball over against a team that
forced turnovers in 66 consecutive games that’s a long streak right there
that we were able to go up there break and they’ll be doing those things on the
road is what you would have had to have done to be a good team like Stevenson
yeah the offense scored twice in the second half it was when they had cut it
to nine and then eight so they scored when they needed to demetreus jalepes
had a huge game that was really good run blocking and then you mentioned the lack
of turnovers Jay Scoggins now in two games if you include rushing six
touchdowns no turnovers yeah I think that’s a good percentage there’s no
question that you can’t get much better than that on those two things and I
think you know Demetrius when you watch him play he’s a guy that I could see
where the offensive line they want a block for that guy because
you know he’s gonna go hard and there were times we did some outstanding job
blocking and there are also times where Demetrius had some outstanding seven
eight yard runs just based on sheer force of will so I think we got a pretty
good combination going right now you know we got a big challenge it’s one of
those games you wish it was week 11 it’s not because the rearview mirror you got
careful looking back and I think one of these good teams do is they dump bag
each and sometimes that baggage is bad sometimes the baggage is good but you
better let it go and move on and that’s what we have to do this week yes you go
up to Shenandoah team that was picked a little lower this year because I don’t
think people knew what to expect without Haden bauserman in there you know
quarterback that graduated but not only have they not lost yet this year after a
good win on the road against North Carolina Wesleyan actually they
haven’t lost since you beat them in last October well I think you’re right any
time you pull a hayden bauseman out of the equation you know he was a
galiardi Award finalist you know they flew him down to Texas I think but I
think the significance they lost that first game to the hurricane and then
they lost game against Methodist who I’m sure they anticipated beating and when
Methodist did not come up there to play them at home at Shenandoah but you know
they went on the road and you know beat north carolina wesleyan by 16 points
at the previous week had sat on the bus for seven hours and went down to Emory &
Henry and beat Emory & Henry in Emory in and so I think there’s significance I
think our kids see that they return a lot on the defensive side of the ball
and I think that’s where I saw where I’ve seen the most improvement from them
35 points is 35 points regardless of who’s pulling the trigger they played
two quarterbacks and I think you know Stan does a good job theyre well schemed
and they probably got a system that they think will go beyond an individual most
good programs do and it’ll be another night game with a rivalry where they
usually have a big crowd turnout when you go up there so does having that
experience last week of having to go on the road beat a good team in you know a
big stadium theyre blowing the horn after they score a touchdown a pretty good
atmosphere there do you think that experience will really help you coming
up this I think it is I think our kids they remember going to Shenandoah and
when we play up there it is a big game I think quickly it’s early in the season
now it makes it even a little bit bigger hitting you at the end of the night
there’s only gonna be one undefeated team in the ODAC or hope our kids will
be the ones to step up and you know accept the challenge that comes
with keeping that position once you get into conference schedule it’s a balanced
schedule we got eight games there’s not a must-win game but but there’s no
question you want to get getting out of the gate will help the equation
