Castleton Football 2019 Season Preview

The guys have been working very hard. I thought we came
into camp in very good shape. I never worry too much about the veterans, I worry more about the incoming [players] but they were even impressive in that regard so we were pleased with that That’s allowed us to get a lot out of practice and I think now we’re kind of getting to the point
where guys are ready to hit a different color jersey or play against a different opponent but we
still have another week of preseason and we look forward to working with them for about
another week with that. The shape that we came into camp I thought people were just smoking the conditioning tests this year. Some numbers in the weight room shot way up. I thought that was
really encouraging to see. Also, just the intensity in in practice this year, there’s this edge out on the
field that we can just kind of feel around the stadium—it’s just different. Everyone’s fighting every drill, every rep, and there’s just a good competitive feeling out on the field. In four years I have never seen a more cohesive group of freshmen come
into camp and start knowing their plays and start buying into the program. The sophomores that
were freshmen last year were a great group of guys, very athletic and very bought in from the
beginning, but this year almost all the guys have completely mastered everything that we’ve
installed with the new defensive coordinator and a new offensive coordinator. We just like to think that we just want to get better—one step better—from
last year to this year and we do have a lot of sophomores that are going to be in their second year
of playing so they’re still going to be young, although experienced. We just want to see improvement there. We also have some freshman on the offense side of the ball—new this
year—that could be an impact type of player. We’re going to be predominantly juniors on
defense, predominantly sophomores on offense so we’re still “a young team” but they are guys
that have played for a while so we’re hoping they find the next level. This year, success is just bringing that chip back on our shoulder—that small
school from Vermont that everybody kind of sleeps on and just bring the fight to everybody.
Whether we’re playing here at Castleton or we’re going on the road to play anybody that that has the
unlucky situation of having us on their schedule. The bottom line for every player on this team is winning the ECFC
Conference Championship something that we’ve talked about since
the end of last season and reinforced in every practice every offseason workout
every 6:00 a.m. conditioning there’s very few players on this team that do
not believe that we can win the ECF C championship
