Enrollment trends hurting football team turnout in rural areas

KAREN: THE FOOTBALL TEAM AT CASS MIDWAY HIGH SCHOOL IS GETTING READY TO DO SOMETHING NO OTHER VIKINGS TEAM HAS DONE BEFORE. THAT’S TO START THE SEASON WI A ROAD TRIP TO TENNESSEE. BECAUSE THEIR FIRST OPPONENT DROPPED DOWN TO EIGHT MAN FOOTBALL, CASS MIDWAY HAD A VACANCY ON THEIR SCHEDULE. THEIR NUMBERS. THEIR ENROLLMENT IS LIKE A LOT OF SMALL SCHOOLS. KAREN: IT IS A TREND THAT COULD CONTINUE BECAUSE OF ONE ISSUE.>>YOU HAVE A LOT OF 10 ACRE STUFF THAT IS NOT WHAT A YOUNG FAMILY WOULD BUY. THEY CANNOT AFFORD THAT. KAREN: THE VIKINGS WILL TAKE A NINE HOUR BUS RIDE NEXT WITH FRIDAY MIDDLE TENN CHRISTIAN PAYING FOR MOST OF THE EXPENSES >>THEY WILL LET US SLEEP THERE. WE WILL CAMP OUT AND THEY THERE. NEXT MORNING, THEIR MOMS WILL FEED US BREAKFAST AREA — BREAKFAST. KAREN: WHETHER THE VIKINGS WIN OR LOSE, THIS TRIP WILL PROVIDE GREAT MEMORIES. MOST OF THE PLAYERS ON THIS TEAM HAVE NEVER BEEN OUT OF THE STATE OF MISSOURI.
