Football – Linebackers Position Group Preview (2019)

Rebel fans, let’s get
back on the defensive side of the ball and
take a deeper look at the linebacking core
here, going into 2019. Again, with new
DC Mike MacIntyre, the guys will utilize a
base three four on defense. This change means there are both inside and outside
linebackers to take a look at. We’ll start with the edge guys, who are predominantly end
linemen in previous seasons. Well, you got guys
like Qaadir Sheppard, and Sam Williams that are
just some hosses outside, you know, they’re big
guys, gonna make big plays, gonna do a great job
of containing the run in front of the inside. And then you also got
great backups there like Chuck Wiley and
Brenden Williams. I mean the outside linebacker
beef is real strong. On the inside
we’ll see guys like Momo Sanogo and senior Willie
Hibbler holding down the fort. Strengthening the room
are all SEC freshmen team member Jacquez Jones and
JUCO transfer Lakia Henry. This group has continued
to master the ins and outs of executing Coach
Mac’s defense. He does a great job
of just simplifying his defense, implementing
it in a way that we can all understand it
and build on that knowledge. And then work out the
finite details of it and it’s worked very well. There’s been very little trouble learning the defense
from anybody. As the Rebels gear
up for Memphis on August 31st the
linebackers are taking pride in returning to the days of
a dominant Ole Miss defense. You’re gonna see an
ferocious defense that’s swimming the
ball, making big plays, celebrating, you
know, going back to the way the landshark
is supposed to be. The Rebel defense has a
big challenge in week one trying to slow down the Memphis
Tigers high powered offense, but I think they’ll be ready. I hope you will be too.
We’ll see you on August 31st.
