Football – Special Teams Position Group Preview (2019)

Rebel fans, our position
group previews move right along as we prepare for
the Rebels August 31st matchup with the Memphis Tigers. Today we’ll put our focus
on the special teams. They return in full force
after the 2018 campaign, including junior
punter Mac Brown. In 16 games played,
Brown has averaged over 41 yards per punt and will try to keep
flipping the field for the Ole Miss defense. He’ll also return to help
out the kicking game, holding the long snaps
from junior Jack Propst, so that kicker Luke Logan can
put points up on the board. The group hopes their chemistry
and experienced playing together continues to yield
points for the Rebs. You know we had a lot of
good field goals last year, scored a lot of points, but continue to take
out some of the misses. Every time I step on the field,
my objective is to get points. Whether it be extra
point, field goal, but you know every single
time we go out there, get points for the team. We’ve been working together
since freshman year, and right when we
got on campus we knew that we’d have a long four
to five years together, and it’s just become pretty easy
and pretty automatic so far, so hopefully we’ll
just continue that, go and make some kicks and
have some good operations. Another way Ole Miss has shown they can score points
is in the return game. Jaylon Jones returns
from his injury, and can once again be a
factor for the Rebels, but the list of guys capable
of making a splash play on special teams is
very long for Ole Miss. Coach Nick gives you a good look of a good feel of what it
would be like in a game, so going hard at practice,
focusing on catching, and just seeing it in practice is exactly what you
would see in a game. You know, they’re athletic guys. They’re shifty, they’re quick, and they can make people
miss in open space, and they can take the ball
to the house every time. This is the group that’ll
be setting the tone for Ole Miss when they take
on Memphis on August 31st. Until then, keep it
locked on social media as well as online
at OleMissSports.com.
