GoPro: Jon Gruden’s Football Field Guide – The Coach’s POV (Ep 4)

Let’s break the huddle like county champions,
we’re going to the state. Oh, I like this! I like this! Drive, drive, drive! I love that right there! Reach for the ball, reach for it! Good job! That’s pretty good right there, that’s pretty
good. Well, we’ve seen it from a player’s perspective,
we’ve seen it from the overhead angle, and we’ve also shown you how a coach can use the
GoPro App. But in part four of Gruden’s Field Guide, I’m going to show you my
favorite use with this camera, you see it from a coach’s perspective. I need a slot receiver on this side, a slot
receiver on this side. When we take on these bags, we are not friendly people, are we? You know, you can put this GoPro on your chest
and you can film segments of practice and actually hear the coaching points that you
say on the field. 25, so let’s go three solid on the post, okay,
three hits on the curl. One, two, three ball. Don’t wait, don’t wait. You can put some air
on them and let them run underneath it, ok. But you know what I mean? We’re on the 25
going in. Sometimes maybe you’re too negative. Maybe
you’re a little bit too harsh. Maybe they’ll start calling you Chucky. But you can tone
it down, you can clean it up, you can improve your dialect as well. Try to reach for the ball, cut down the flight
time about two feet. That’s what I want right there, good. You can just use this Chesty to look around
at your players to see if they’re listening, to see if they’re executing what you’re telling
them to do. One, two, three hitch ball, take a hitch.
Take a hitch. Three hitch ball, you’ll teach them to get there. Quarterback’s taking a
three step drop with a hitch and throwing it, your ass better get there. Ok, if you
can’t get there, you’re not going to play. A lot of coaches are great on the board, but
when they go out on the field, sometimes it’s a little lackluster. Put the Chesty on your
coach, have them go out there, he can hear his own coaching points. It’s clear, it’s concise, it’s you, and it’s
important. Come right to your check now. If you listen carefully to what you say, period
in, period out, you can get better as a communicator and teacher. Don’t quit, don’t quit. Get to twelve, get to twelve, get to twelve,
that’s too shallow! That’s like music to my ears. Get to twelve, get to twelve, get to twelve,
you’re too shallow. One more time. Get to twelve, get to twelve, get to twelve,
that’s too shallow! That’s beautiful! Can you imagine if Steven
Tyler was singing that? Get to twelve, get to twelve, get to twelve. Eddie van Halen on the lead guitar. Get to
twelve, get to twelve, get to twelve.
