How a 2% increase in productivity leads to a week of extra time

– Come with me into my
home office for a second, I want to show you something. Now behind me you will see a project that’s been going on for months. They tell me it’s going
to be done sometime soon, I’ll let you be the judge of that. And we’re renovating the office, tearing everything up, not for productivity so much as, for the videos that I shoot. But I wanted to use this example, this ridiculous extreme example, to illustrate that you don’t need to do ridiculous extreme things. In fact, all you need to do is get a 2% increase in productivity. A little change. Because a 2% increase in productivity will give you an entire work week of extra time over the coming year. These little things, like,
getting a better monitor or changing the chair
that you’re sitting in, or just moving the layout of stuff so that you have less distance
between repetitive tasks. That will yield an entire work of time. And when I think back over the
last 10 years of my career, it’s filled dozens of little
changes, not extreme stuff. These little tiny changes. And I don’t think it’s an
exaggeration to say that I received one to two years
of free disposable time due to the 2% increase,
just compounded on itself. So, I’d like you to think about, what’s one little thing you can do, not something extreme like, tearing up your whole damn office. But what’s one little
thing that you can do in the next month, that will give you an entire
work week of free time, in the coming year.
