How to Run a 5-2 Football Defense : Positions in the 5-2 Football Defense

Hi, I’m Billy Kid and I’m here on Expert Village
and we’re going to talk about the five-two defense. The five-two. The five-two defensive
lineman they play within a yard of the ball on the line of scrimmage and control. They’re
up there, their job is to control the line of scrimmage so that there’s no penetration
by the offense, to create seams with them to be able to run the ball. Linebackers are
to roam the depths of the hills of these defensive lineman making plays where ever the ball is
trying to get to, there filling in the gaps. When you have five defensive lineman and two
linebackers you can see here that you’ve got seven people that are playing right here on
the line of scrimmage in a position to where they can control it and most of the time you
have seven people because you’re playing a team that likes to run the football. So, you’re
whole objective is to stop the ball from being ran or advanced past the line of scrimmage.
