How to Run a 6-2 Football Defense : Job of the Linebackers in Pass Defense in Football

Hi, this is Sean Hobson for Expert Village.
What we want to talk about right now is the importance of these two linebackers in the
6-2 defense in pass coverage. Now the first responsibility these guys have is to come
up, read the play, react to the play and try to stop the run. However, if they’re a smart
offense, and if they’re well coached. They are going to try to throw the ball on you
in the 6-2 defense. So what they’re going to try to do is, they are going to try to
get their quarterback to drop back into a three step drop quickly. All of these guys
in our front six are going to be coming hard, and its these two guys job to read the play
and if that quarterback steps back in a three step drop, these guys have got to drop back
in a pass coverage and their heads have got to be on a swivel. Because there?s man on
man on the outside, but there?s nobody here to pick up the tight end or the running back
coming out of the backfield. So these guys have got to cover from the middle of the field
to the outside of the field. Its a big job and you’ve got to have just the right guys
in these two man set of linebackers in the 6-2.
