CIF high school football game of the week we’re at King high school
it is homecoming for the Bears of Riverside Poly and they have an
important Inland Valley matchup coming up against the Lancers of Lakeside I’m
Gazala son this is Jeff Gorham and the playoff implications have started in
Week eight abound in the City of Riverside you look at the lakeside
Lancers who are the Polli opponent tonight their own seven but you don’t
want to get surprised by this team they’re very dangerous led by their dual
threat quarterback Dakota Polk Dakota Pope threw it all over the Huskies last
week in a near upset he threw over 277 yards and 22 unanswered points in that
fourth quarter like I said nearly pulled off the upset alright let’s move over to
the home team the Riverside Poly Bears looking to get to the playoffs for the
first time since 2015 we know about bud Bernie the very talented quarterback he
can fling the ball all over the field but the X Factor might be the senior
running back Jason Harrell for the Bears well Jason Harrell had some injury
issues earlier this season but I’ll tell you what he’s got a great coach in bill
Powell and bill Powell likes to run Smash Mouth football and that could be
the difference to in tonight’s game all right playoff implications for the
Bears of Riverside Poly before we start this one will kick into the third member
of our broadcast team standing by on the sidelines is Nick rice thanks cos also Riverside Pauli watching
last night North beating Canyon Springs knows that they must win tonight to stay
a game back of the division lead with both JW North and orange Vista meanwhile
the Lancers head coach James siedler knows that despite lakeside beginning
the year oh and seven a win tonight could go a long way towards their hopes
of turning around this program midterms are over some of the different injuries
have been cured for these two teams so they’re healthy coming into tonight no
more excuses we’re time for football poly and lakeside guys back to you
thanks Nick and we got the keys to the game before poly they really need to
take care of business if they can win today and they win next week that North
game at the end of the year could be for a playoffs John Rice has said they need
to clean up mistakes and they need to finish the game fourth quarter hasn’t
been good for the Bears no in fact we saw those mistakes when earlier this
season when they had King I’ll tell you what they there was some bad bad bad
plays by that team they’ve cleaned it up I hope to see an improved poly bear team
tonight versus the Lancers of lakeside lakeside wants to avoid turnovers these
two teams played last year they turn the ball over eight times they also want to
get their passing game going here’s the kick back to the five-yard line bringing
it out these poly up to the 30-yard line that’s where they’ll start first in ten
offense as we talked about orchestrated by but Bernie did a nice job for three
years a three-year starter the return was by Aaron maciel Lopez for poly the
big offensive line a different left guard playing left guard is going to be
number 68 Bubba Remy res will play the left guard
position Austin Robles has been hurt most of the year he’s back on the poly
offensive line that could take factor we talked about Jason Harrell in the
opening yeah Jason Harrell a power back he’s one of those guys that can really
really change the complexity of a game because of the ground game his strength
let’s see how it works out tonight to backset first intend Harrell will get
the first carry submarine over the 35 yard line coming up and making the play
for Lakeside was Dakota Pope so six yards on the first play bring up a
second and for Bernie with the give right into the teeth of the defense
bouncing away but he can’t escape that was Harrell again helping out with the
tackle Alfonso Romero was the first white shirt to him
Romero the five seven junior good defensive unit for Lakeside they’re just
not particularly deep they’ve been battling injuries they have eight men
playing on both sides of the football Jeff cross the front they’re missing one
of their defensive linemen but they do have some depth upfront that’s about the
only place they have depth is it’s a third and one coming up need to get over
the 40-yard line does poly for the first down option Bernie keeps it he won’t get
it yes jaylen McGee comes up from his
strong safety position to make that play it’ll be a fourth down the linebackers
and the defensive backs are the key for the lakeside defense can they hold in
the athletes of poly on the outside but the first series any indication Jeff
they’re gonna run between the tackles they are gonna go between tackles bot
say what you look at that defensive unit for the Lancers only three seniors to go
along with peppered em some sophomores and juniors a very young
lakeside team pantos aback to receive the kick from Austin Zuniga and it’ll go
dead inside the 30-yard line so a good kick we have some chaos in the booth up
here the offense for the Lancers watch Dakota Pope their quarterback Jalen
Magee the running back is a big threat as well they have some count John Medina
had a huge game against North last week catching 11 passes against the Huskies so the ball will start at the 28 yard
line with 959 to play here in the first quarter
so Pope we mentioned the open he is a dual threat running and throwing second
year as a start low he’s just a junior little circle right out of the backfield
incomplete trying to hit McGee and second in 10 as a result of the
incompletion I tell you what he threw 277 yards against a very good North and
we saw North and they’re a great defensive unit coach Brown does a great
job and most of those was in this was in the second half as they had 22 points
and nearly like I said pulled up the upset versus eight great North team yeah
coach James idler who he talked to said the passing game is really starting to
develop and come around and with that the handoff to McGee takes it up the
middle surging to the 31 yard line wrapping him up his Daniel Ledbetter the
senior leader on that front line for the defense of poly crossed the front Tala
mock Sanchez Westover Ledbetter the front four for Riverside poly they
played the four to five Joseph serda and Mike suby Michael Burke of the
linebackers and the five defensive backs the rover is Mikey Scouten and but
Bernie and Sammy Sanchez at the corners Luke Pruitt the Ethan la montagne are
the safeties third down eight Pope kind of a broken play but you’ll
surge over the 35 serda with the tackle before poly and fourth down a smart move
by the quarterback had nothing like that broken play but was able to find a gap
and get themselves in position but the looks like they’re gonna go to the punt
here so team you exchanged punts on the first sequence getting back to receive
for poly is Ethan LaMontagne back to punt for the Lancers angling it is Adrian Serato
hears LaMontagne 40 gets past the first tackle near midfield finally taken down
near midfield by JB Garces good return and good field position for poly I’m
talking about LaMontagne last year the Bears beat
Lakes i29 to nothing and while Montaigne was a big part of that was 60 yards
rushing in 18 yards yeah the big thing last year for at lakeside they turn the
ball over eight times in that game poly ran all over the the Lancers to me
totally 386 yards Bernie to her al trying the right side early contact and
then he’ll be written down first man to the ball for lakeside was Edwin Jimmy Oh
who’s the defensive end Jaramillo is a 4.0 student so he’s a pretty good
football player and a pretty good student all-around guy short gain boom
they’re gonna say three yards up to the 48 yard line so call it second and eight
under eight minutes to play first quarter for poly bears trying to go to 2
and 1 an inland Valley League play lakeside looking for their first win of
the year here’s the RPO Bernie keeps it and gets
up to about the 43 yard line so five more yards makes it third and manageable
Bernie in fact ran a similar play to this when they took care of King here on
this field that was the winning playwright was the way actually was that
Ramona that was the game I put it with that was the winning play and that shows
the the legs of Bernie 3rd and 2 from the 42 of Lakeside so good drive started
at midfield for power they’d like to keep it going here
and that’s the power that bill Powell brings over from his days as head coach
at San Jacinto how about Harold he’s driving the legs he’ll have to first
down and more to the 34 and why not do it what worked for you last year yet you
have blanked Blake side like you said over 385 yards on the ground had 43
yards on 18 carries last week did Harrell against orange Vista they were
hard-fought yards between the tackles John rice felt they matched the physical
intensity of Warren’s Vista but let Han let it slip away late didn’t finish as
well as he would have liked them to finish to back Setzer to set up as the
full-back and here’s Bernie with the keeper
Bernie near a first down up to the 25 and talking about orange vista to great
defensive players to defensive ends our pac-12 down yeah and I’ll tell you what
Holly held their own for much of that game good fake to have both running
backs going in the same direction and then Bernie kind of pulled a little bit
of trickeration there to jump to the outside the thing about Lakes I don’t
have a lot of size on defense John rice though was concerned because he feels
their athletes can match poly with regard to speed so we’re a little bigger
when try to wear him down second and short
quick throw on the slant incomplete la montagne the intended receiver John
Medina on the coverage for the Lancers third down and one up coming Anika
LaMontagne’s not too thrilled with himself that was a
definitely a catchable ball and as you see him he
letting out a couple little yells there Lyle Perkins an interesting study for
lakeside he’s their defensive end most athletic defender 6-4 245 pounds senior
very good against the zone read so you’ll likely be locked in on but Bernie
and a timeout called by Polly on the third and one play with 556 to play here
in the first quarter Kazaa hassan with you along with Jeff Gorham Nick rice
down along the sidelines bonus Saturday night edition its homecoming for the
Bears of Riverside poly we’re here at King high school so for those who don’t
know probably doesn’t have a feel they can play a game on I think they only
have one side of stands and so they’re playing their homecoming game on in a
visiting field get a look at the poly huddle and I guess they’ll all go back
to poly for the date of the postgame dances that how it works well it’s an
entire day Gasol Polly had a pancake breakfast this morning from 78 I believe
then they had the the parade down Magnolia no no so the ever football on
parade and they they had floats we saw earlier today incredible day of fun for
the Bears parallel straight ahead but runs into
the front line of leaks I don’t think he got it Jeff flag comes in on the play so they’ll market if the line judge is
where I believe he is they’re gonna mark it short blind judges you can see he’s
advancing up just inside the 25-yard line they need to get over to the 24 and
a facemask called how about that that really got a hurt lakeside lakeside had
the stop but a personal foul face mask penalty will allow poly to move half the
distance to the goal let’s see it again to Jeff a good call there at the end so first in 10 they mark the ball to the
13th poly drive started at midfield after the
punt return by Ethan LaMontagne that was at 8:28 year in the first quarter Bears
trying to break out on top to give inside this is Serta Sirte swerves
inside to the 9 starting linebacker will get some time at running back as well
and I talked with John Rice and I’m talking about the strength he thinks
he’s got stronger guys right now on the lakeside hopefully running this Smash
Mouth football against this defensive line will wear out the Lancers and see
if poly can capitalize on Harrell to the end zone touchdown ten yard run for the touchdown capping
off the drive that started at midfield so Harrell we talked about him in the
open and John Rice said he’s playing the best football right now on this team he
was out for a game because some injuries earlier but the offensive line healthy
again and Harrell the first couple of drives he’s been their main focus the
p80 from Colin Avery is true 7 nothing Polly with 447 to play in the first
quarter very good drive by poly and all led by
that young man but Bernie as he did that harpy off the first play and then it was
by committee great roll out by Bernie gained nine
yards on that play and they go to their guy Jason Harrell and finish off the
drive with Harrell with a nice touchdown going outside unscathed untouched
touchdown bears happy birthday Bill Powell I love Bill
Powell 29 the offensive coordinator for poly hafiz is today or tomorrow is
Bertha believe it’s today I woke up this morning and jumped on the social media
and everybody was telling bill Powell happy birthday so the first thing I saw
and said to him was happy birthday young fella three players deep for Lakeside
interesting formation jaylen Magee Alfonso Romero back short kick though
peel about the 30-yard line and not too much more after that could tackle on the plays ACMA on the
coverage got some help as well from Angel Sanchez so first in 10 ball on the 35 for
lakeside offensive coordinator Craig Bell for lakeside first-year head coach
James side low had a nice conversation with him before the game has no real
connection libera 2 to lakeside had coached at great oak head coaching the
San Fernando Valley couple of teams he’d been at Sylmar San Fernando as well as
Golden Valley and it’s a career military man and had to retire due to some
physical things a shoulder injury would can’t tell by looking at him still looks
like he could play yeah still super fit first and 10 I don’t know that little
confusion or design play this is Pope Pope making something out of it making a
profit over the 40 lamontagne puts the coup de Gras on on the hit and a good
advance on first down for lakeside so all the way up to the 42 8 yard pick
ax or 7 yard pickup second and three get another look and looks like there was a
little mess up but that’s twice tonight there’s been some games by Pope on some
broken plays hey McGee do the right thing if there’s confusion just go hit
somebody yes exactly don’t take the ball just go block somebody and he went and
hit somebody and his quarterback was able to pick up seven on first down this is McGee runs right into the grasp
of Daniel Ledbetter but looks to be close to the first down penalty on the
play see what we got so one facemask is right side and the other facemask now on
poly though it’s all even-steven like you lose 20 bucks in the morning Jeff
yes but your jacket on there’s $20 bill in the pocket you didn’t remember I wish
that would happen to me more I usually lose 20 and then I look and there’s a
dollar in my pocket couple pennies happens to all of us sometimes you have
kids though it’s different you’re probably disappearing left and right all
the time not that they steal it folks it’s a use
it kids are expensive fake it I always want popsicles
toys and food from the 42 of Polly Pope to throw out of the backfield McGee
McGee puts his shoulder down riding forward to the 30-yard line
nice job along the sideline by jaylen McGee McGee last week against North 58
yards on 16 carries but he also caught four balls for 77 yards 11 yard gain for
a first down la montagne with the tackle that was the hot read yet scout coming
on the Blitz and he gets the ball to the outside on Magee
first down and ten nice job moving the ball from lakeside got help from that
penalty tight set right up the middle McGee McGee carrying tacklers with him
still moving the pile in town to almost a first down look like a scrum right there the rugby
action so biggie got inside the 23 just short of the first down look at him just
drive here Jeff that’s weight room right there binder
you flood kicking off four or five defenders with ease
that wasn’t easy had to work a little bit but it tells you what kind of player
jaylen Magee is senior for lakeside he was a starter on defense last year and
then kind of moved to offense later in the year
McGee I’ll take it he’ll try the right side this time he’ll spin in Para wet
down inside the 15 so maybe Craig Bell the offensive
coordinator for lakeside taking a page out of bill Powell’s look he said you
know Coach that drive looked pretty good let’s try it the other way let’s go off
tackle as well makes for quick games I’ll tell you that nice kick out block
on the outside for lakeside that was JB Garces freeing up some space 7-nothing pali we near two minutes to
play first quarter nice drive for lakeside this is McGee again ping
ponging around pinballing down still driving the pile stands up at about the
11 yard line so four more yards for him well he can’t move an entire pile I’ll
tell you what the strength of that young man is evident here early came in
averaging just under 5 yards a carry 349 yards and two touchdowns on the season
for McGee Froy yard pickup second and six right
back to McGee McGee surging forward leans forward into the endzone touchdown
the lake side with a nice response on the drive they drive 65 yards and it’s a
7 to 6 ballgame Jalen McGee finds pay dirt for his third time on the season
hope and McGee that was them the entire Drive there but McGee Wow the strength
of that young man the power we’re seeing that could be a tough one for the Bears
tonight so on for the p80 is Carlos Cruz Cruz
also a soccer player in his past three for three on PA tees this season got a
couple of guys who kick for lakeside the special teams coach for Lakeside is
a guy named Bob Vic he’d worked with Robbie Robinson and they’re gonna try
the two-point conversion and it will not succeed but Vic is a character he likes
to run a lot of different formations he worked with Robbie Robinson at chaparral
and at Great Oak and James Siler the head coach at Lakeside he’s a great oak
guy who was a defensive line coach there for three years so he bought over a
couple of the assistants from great oak let’s look at the play well here’s a
look at the drive so the broken play that Dakota Polk turned into something
and then here’s the little pass out of the backfield to McGee and look at him
just kind of pinball he loves contact and here’s the run we’re talking about
earlier he’s just carrying guys with him driving the pile staying upright and
then begin rest of it was just jaylen McGee though maybe a Jason Harrell Jalen
McGee thing doing a Larry Bird Dominique Wilkins sort of thing on that drive
touchdown lakeside to the Lancers ever they played and that was the the problem
was the bobble McGee was gonna throw that it was the bobble off the snap that
really hurt that two-point conversion attempt so 7-6 Poly homecoming here tonight at
King high school for the Bears of poly poly one and one in Inland Valley League
play three and four overall lakeside Owens seven owing to any one Valley lead
play the Bears still looking potentially at trying to get into the playoffs
it’s tough probably need to at least win the next two games to set up that
showdown with north and the season finale Jeff I think coach rice feels his
guys are ready but right now it could be anybody’s game
kickoff picked up inside the 4 yard line by Herron Marcia Lopez Lopez breaks free
and he’ll finally be spun down at the 30 yard line making the tackle for lakeside
angel Dominguez so from the 30 will be poly nice run by Lopes was barajas who came
in and made the tackle one of the quarterbacks for Lakeside now I know a
friend of yours runs the defense for lakeside Garth Jensen I know you guys
are pretty good friends you talked together I have known a guard Jensen for
over 20 years he we worked together haruka Valley but he was also the
athletic director at Valley View he’s the head football coach there as well
Harrell loses the ball on the turf looks to have recovered it and will be second
down coming up was the head coach of the Hupa Valley Jaguars at one time supa
dupa dupa yeah and he was an assistant great oak been everywhere so I was a
pleasant surprise to see guard Jim one of the better football minds here
working with the Lancers I just didn’t quite have the ball did Harrell a loss
of to second in 12 let’s see what the poly offense comes up with Bernie maybe
changing the play right now Harrell adjusts here’s the give Harrell gets around the
first defender but then McGee cleans it up McGee’s everywhere another loss he
can run he can jump the gap I’ll tell you he was there so quickly he got by
Perkins and then McGee came in and cleaned up three receivers to the bottom
of the screen for pilot Zack ma Ethan Tijerina among them Bernie rollin lefty looks
downfield puts it up for T arena who hauls it in at the 40 all the way to the
end zone touchdown Ethan Tijerina from but Bernie a 72 yard
strike and poly stretches the field to take us 13 to 6 lead I was a perfect
lawn dart throw it was high and it landed right in the man’s hands and
nobody could touch him great pass from Bernie T arena caught the ball at the 40
yard line nice design bootleg there by Bernie and finds his man down the field setting
up the rut the throw the pass with the run p80 upcoming Avery puts it up and through 14 to 6
last play of the first quarter another look at it
Burnie rolling and got over the top of help was supposed to come over the top
got there a little bit late and T arena makes the catch and saunters down into
the end zone we have Nick rice standing by on the sidelines into the first
quarter 14 to 6 what do you got Nick face Gasol end of the first quarter it’s
been a thriller so far for riverside Paulie they let up that long drive to a
club in Lakeside it’s a very interesting story considering that they’re on a
brand new athletic director less than a year into this new tutelage and a brand
new roster just about with all the youngsters that are on this team but the
head coach team siedler 15 years of experience youth football
semi-professional football and Jeff he’s the huckleberry for lakeside for this
coming year and even though the Lancers are on 7 they proved to us on that long
drive that they’re capable of matching score for score that’s what Riverside
poly puts up on the board but back to you guys comment or me on to kick it off I’m just glad Nick rice watched
tombstone last night cuz he didn’t know who Wyatt Earp was but he didn’t throw
out the huckleberry so I’m proud of you for doing your homework there young
fella Medina Magee and Polito back to receive
this is Magee back inside the four shifty move up over the twenty he’ll be
Submarine there at about the twenty three check that instead making the
return was Alfonso Romero Carlton dance all right here’s trivia for you and it’s
big right what’s the chimein it’s it’s okay
where did Alfonso Ribeiro what did he base the Carlton dance on we’ll come
back to that later they really don’t and I should know this
I know he was the tap dance kid he was a tap dance kid absolutely and then he was
in a little thing called silver spoons with Ricky Schroder that’s right so it
was Jase Joel ray Plus right Jason Bateman true back to
action second quarter under way Polly with a big strike makes it 14 to 6 on a
homecoming Saturday and lakeside back on the offense coming off a very successful
dry first in 10 for the 23 Pope to throw Pope under pressure looking downfield
he’s got a man Medina incomplete little bit overthrown
LaMontagne in coverage for poly and that’s something James Sadler was very
positive about with regard to his team yes their own 7 but he said our passing
game is coming around Pope is starting to figure out what he needs to do showed
it there had a lot of duress but was able to still make a pretty good throw
down the field seeing the pressure saw his receiver could come open overthrew
it a little bit second intent give to McGee trying to find his way to
the outside a couple of yards wrestled down from behind making the play there
was Jake West over now west over and Ledbetter were both playing outside they
bumped West over inside so short game there but you look at the numbers first
four games lakeside average 86 yards passing the
last three they’ve averaged nearly 200 so the passing game kind of finding its
way Medina in the near slot for lakeside so two backs three receivers hope
looking to throw quickly and incomplete to the outside coverage by Sammy Sanchez
intended receiver was Jacob Montel pray so fourth-down Sanchez is one of those
senior leaders on defense John rice so effusive about him can’t find enough
good things to say about the young man and Sanchez who’s one of the captains on
this team he’s johnny-on-the-spot right there just
ball skills knocks it down fourth down cerrado will kick to lamontagne
LaMontagne had a good return setting up the first touchdown for poly in the
first quarter bit if a line drive will bounce and skip and roll out of bounds
at the 40 so 37 yard kick no return poly with the
lead back on defense can take control of this game the big play Jeff by poly
really kind of flipped the script a little bit in this one they sure did it
was a big time pass from Bud Bernie that really just changed the complexity so
far let’s see if they can regain that confidence we saw in that last Drive
it’s interesting because after the score by poly
lakeside responded well and poly came right back though trickeration here’s
the reverse lining up to throw the ball and losing the football is brown ball
loose too loose lakeside had a shock did they get it they did not poly will
retain possession but they’ll lose yardage back to the 25-yard line
I believe they’re gonna give it to linoleic side Wow
lakeside picked it up and I know the firt they had the first shot so the
turnover and that’s something John Rice talked to us about he said we need to
eliminate our mistakes he talked specifically about penalties and
turnovers they’ve been ok on the penalties but the turnover here gives
lakeside very advantageous field position they’d been running extremely well as
you get a look another look at the play the ball bouncing around there
Perkins had a shot at it and looked like Romero fell on it so the 25 of poly its
first intent 10:32 of the second quarter and whistles be a false start on lakeside and not the
second guess obviously but you know John Rice is a friend of ours but when you’re
running so well they’re running between the tackles so well and you just stretch
the field you go to a trick play and obviously we’re talking about it because
it didn’t work but the turnover is huge right now that turnover is giant and the
trick play had it worked could have been great but handy just
like you said you got to shore up those mistakes the hope pulls it down and he’s
got some space hope to the 15 pushed out of bounds good play against Sanchez
there on the spot to stop I’m really impressed with pope though I
mean he is completely aware of what’s going on on the field he doesn’t see a
gap to throw the ball and he I’ll tell you what he’s really heady he’s quick
deceptively quick and really finds a hole right there
scrambles down to the 13 so first down top of the screen is Madine remember he
had 200 yards receiving against north last week first down play they’ll feed
Mickey Mickey party in the middle of the defense still on his feet
is he in down at the one physical run you know it’s interesting 12-yard rent
gain on the plate of the one John rice told us his defense last week he was
happy with them even in the loss because for three quarters they were physically
able to match Orange Vista lakeside a much less physical team and you know to
be fair it’s really gelling McGee it has been Jhelum again I’d say he’s taking
the entire bear defense and really carried him Honda’s on his back
literally and figuratively so first and goal from the one here’s McGee and he’ll
do the rest of it McGee breaks the plane touchdown lakeside so the turnover
converted into six by the Lancers who were sticking around here in the second
quarter Jeff Warren tell you what you know maybe that game against North you
know woke up something that fourth quarter when you put up 22 points on a
very good team they’re riding that confidence it’s interesting because I
was talking to James Sadler about it and we were kind of going through I said
well what happened and he said you know listen they were up big they put some of
their second string guys in so we took advantage of it but in the fourth
quarter obviously defending the lead they had their starters in and our guys
were still able to execute so it’s a learning process p80 kick is up and it’s
good so it’s 1413 lakeside pulls to within a point with 906 to play in the
second quarter nick rice has something for us down on the sidelines thanks Gasol so john rice spoke to his
defense before this series relates I’d scored and cut this game within one and
he was concerned about the defensive line getting pushed at the point of
attack they were talking about potentially
squeezing the line in and so far the Lancers with over a hundred yards of
offense they’re really having their way at the point of attack against they
wants very successful Riverside Poly defense guys back to you
good point you made there and John rice ran the defense the last two years for
Poly so he’s got a personal hand in how they play and you know he was very
candid with me too we talked over the weekend and he was saying you know
there’s some things we need to clean up and there were a couple things he was
talking about the penalties and say hey it’s week seven we’re still doing it
that’s on me I’m the coach I run the defense I need to improve some things we
need to work on this stuff in practice so he was very accountable with regard
to what he thought let’s look at John Rice his first year as head coach he was
here the last two years a defensive coordinator as the kickoff his field
that at the 35 yard line almost immediately down goes the ball carrier
for Poly and the Bears will tee it up from the 38 yard line he learned a lot
in his one year he was linebacker coach at Saint John Bosco the year they won
the CIF championship and he said you know I learned a lot about how to
organize and coach and attention to detail from Jason Negro and there’s a
reason st. John Bosco his program is where they are and I want to get poly to
that same place first intent 38 yard line or power play
action this is Perkins and he takes him down
Lionel Perkins makes the play the six foot four 240 pound defensive end
James Sadler explained to me he is our best player against the read option Jeff
you saw on that play why he’s just so strong and he was so quick off the ball
as you watch here he is gets right around and gets outside and man with
those long arms reaches out that’s just strength right there with one arm 240
pounds big fella 5-yard loss back to the 33 two by two for poly here’s the throw
to the outside complete little bit of a bobble by ma and he’s bumped out of
bounds at the 44 yard line coming over Pantoja making the play
Zachary ma with the reception up to the 44 so 11 yards will bring up third down just the out pattern and a profit offensively third and short so for receivers in the formation low on
tain to the bottom of your screen trips to the far side
oh and stumbling over a good cadence there by Bud Bernie
Alfonso Romero got caught in the neutral zone you mentioned that but Bernie is a
point guard on the basketball team so he understands the gamesmanship a little
bit huh definitely you know he’s you’re a floor general he’s a field general out
here not playing basketball but very intelligent guy with all sports
apparently because that is a big-time move from the senior quarterback to the
arena to the top of your screen in the middle of the trips formation is Brown
nearest to but Bernie is Zack MA and then LaMontagne split out to the near
side play stop momentarily the officials so a white hat who is rich robbins is
walking over to try to explain something a sideline warning I guess for lakeside
rich Robins our referee tonight Mike bum burger is the umpire rate trip with the
head linesman Robins the headlines from the back judges mark Chism I know you
and rate Triplett go way back I’ve known great trip with my entire
life there aren’t many people better than that young man I’ll tell ya one of
the nicest human beings on this planet first and ten from midfield for poly
here’s Bernie over the middle complete mom down to the 12 yard line just
through a rope he finds him in the seam 39 yard pickup move the sticks that’s
when you say my meatloaf now there it is that’s the meatloaf perfect pass from
birdie I like my meatloaf reference they’re
funny bought the eleven first and ten Polly Burnie looking straight same
pattern touchdown finds Zachary MA again the senior his
first touchdown of the season so 1/2 T arena 1 – mom – passing touchdowns for
bud Bernie Bears make it 20 to 13 pending the p80 so good response after
that first play was a huge loss but Bernie takes it upon himself to make a
couple of plays that’s that senior leadership right there little
trickeration will they get it two-point conversion ethan LaMontagne brings it in
22 to 13 now as the conversion is good for poly I don’t know if it was planned
but I’ll tell you what that could be huge especially with that mixed missed
p80 from Lakeside here’s a look at the touchdown pass almost the same route as
the first completions to the other side just running straight to the post he’s a
mom on the touchdown and here’s the holder LaMontagne that’s why I love
having an athletic holder because you can run trickeration like this as
lamontagne weaving around finding the pylon so Poli now up 20 to 13 718 to play in
the first half Riverside Poly we talked about it in the
open they haven’t made the playoffs since 2015
where that 2014 team under Dennis Brown got to the inland final where they lost
a great game against Redlands Valley 36:32 Reb ended up winning a state title
that year under Kurt bruit they want to get back they want an opportunity but
John rice understands he’s kind of pushing the rock up the hill in his
division flag comes in I’ll recheck poly in Division eleven right now so
Riverside poly comes in three and four they’re 21 teams in the division already
that have four wins or more so we were talking to I was talking to John Ryan he
said you know realistically we got to take care of business we got to win the
next two weeks and maybe in week ten we have a chance to play north and a
rivalry game for a playoff spot which anything can happen we’ve seen it you
saw a good one last night vista marietta upset by the great Burt Esposito and
what what a job he’s doing over there how about that he did a great job of
paloma Valley and I’ll tell you what Temecula Valley was smart reaching out
to that great coach short kick caught at the 35 up to about
the 40 making the play for Lakeside Eric Vargas
making the return and good field position for Lakeside so lakeside would
now an opportunity they had one very good Drive and they scored a point off a
turnover the defense hasn’t been able to stop poly here in the second quarter
they were pretty good in the first quarter there’s an opportunity now some
of the teams exchanged pumps to start the game but it’s been kind of fireworks
ever since fun game to watch so far Medina split to the bottom of the screen
double tight set Pope he’s got one man at Spadina one-on-one and he reels it in
that he stay inbounds he did not matched up with Sanchez was Medina and Medina
really kind of came around last week was a first big game he has 28 catches on
the year for 380 yards and three touchdowns 11 catches 201 yards and
three touchdowns last week against John W north
the Huskies we look at the play again Jeff they’re seven and one going into
next week’s game against orange Vista that was very close I’ll tell you what
what a great catch McGee runs through the first one but
this time Tala mock wrestles him down maybe got back to the line of scrimmage
like the Bears and they coach you staffing made a quick adjustment here on
a LAN date alamak makes the tackle you know his nickname is T Mac knocking
coach rice about it so you know even his dad who’s a running back coach for Poly
calls him T Mac it’s a pretty nice thing it’s cool yeah it’s cool
the kind of old nineties nickname right that’s what we call guys in the 90s
Tracy McGrady of course most famous t-mac that I know
here’s to throw over the middle intended for Matt Dean a little bit airmailed
Sanchez was there and lamontagne was over top so fourth down and 11 coming up
for Lakeside so paulie’s figured something out nick rice had a great
point about the front line for Paulina they they felt they had an advantage up
front in terms of size and I think John rice and his staff said okay we need to
exert that size advantage in front so the lineup is if they’re gonna go for
it but and they throw the ball they do go for
on fourth down they won’t get it the ball was completed but it’ll go over on
downs to poly kind of like a coach so that is gonna gamble I mean like you
said you’re owing seven you’re throwing the ball well why not midfield let’s see
if they can stop somebody on defense here bought 39 yard line of lakeside so a good field position for
poly already lead this 120 to 213 Bernie to throw under pressure intercepted making the pic is Alfonso Romero that
play worked earlier for poly not that time Romero with the interception leads
the team with 49 tackles and his coach told me you know he’s one of those kids
you know he’s five seven a buck sixty but really has a nose for the football
showed it on that play sure on that plan and Bernie just looks like he under
threw it it didn’t look like he had anything behind that ball as we watching
a replay here they just didn’t have anything on they looked like he was
throwing off his back foot and that yeah that’s exactly what happened he threw
off the back flip didn’t have enough velocity on on the football there so the
offense back out for lakeside they trail 20 to 213 though is good of that
old-time religion they’ll pound it on the ground maybe a couple up to the 38
on the first down play bringing up second at eight James Seidler an
interesting story 20-year career military man was in the US Army and then
was a fire fighter for the Department of Defense on the federal level and had a
shoulder injury was telling me he was deployed out to Germany last year and a
soldier injury forced him to retire from both the military and as a firefighter
second and 9 from the 37 Pope will keep Pope trying to turn the corner and he’ll
have a first down ok he’s a tough kid fun to watch very handy very very smart
you know they can run inside and they can run outside and Pope gets by Telemachus by t-mac and
bud Burnie there to make the tackle so Seidler he’d been a defensive line
coach he mentioned a great oak and coached in the San Fernando Valley where
he’s from but applied for the lakeside job kind of sight unseen he’d been on
the campus a couple of years ago first and ten from the 47 for lakeside and
throw it at Medina little tunnel screen loves the football ball bouncing around
Poly falls on it Michael Burke will make the recovery and the first turnover the
game for lakeside will go over to the Bears and he just lost the football to
Jeff that’s exactly what happened it was a great run going inside but was
stripped by number 54 of that defensa West oh boy west over we got his hand on
it we got Micah James Seidler his son had
played it great oak was a defensive lineman and played on the Riverside
all-star game there their practice at Lakeside he thought the campus was
really impressive and so any fan that the job was open he applied for it
lakeside only started playing varsity football back in 2006 and Mark Chandler
who’d been there coach had to step down last year in the middle of the season
for health reasons he actually had the program playing pretty well his first
year he was five and five then he got him to seven and four in 2017 they made
the playoffs for the first time in school history and then I was looking
step back last year but Seidler comes in he did a pretty interesting story as I
mentioned so he played it Sylmar and his senior year at Sylmar they won a city
for a title over Crenshaw 38 6 he was a defensive end and a tight end but he
also had kind of a tragic angle to that he lost his dad that year his senior
year in high school family was living in the valley at the time of the Northridge
quake back in January of 94 and as they were kind of getting recovering from it
getting the house in order his dad his name was a meal passed away of a heart
attack in the home and that was a rough beginning for
Seidler you know his senior year he’s it just kind of wasn’t motivated but
football really kind of kept him going he was able to win that city title back
in 1994 Bernie to lamontagne does the toe-tap get to the outside he’s got some
space flag comes in LaMontagne finally wrestled out of bounds inside the 35
yard line making the tackle rudi Pantoja let’s see what the flag is
all about though I’ll come back hold on the Bears that’s a tough tough one right
there LaMontagne had a great great run and pulled back and there’s our there’s our esteemed
mayor right here Infernus old rusty bailey mayor riverside coming to say hi
shake some hands kiss some babies himself a poly graduate right he is was
a teacher here as well had a chance to sit down and heard should say stand up
and talk to him at the long night of art and innovation that’s right on Riverside
TV the archive probably still up on the YouTube page he was very instrumental in
bringing it over from our sister city in Germany from the 46 and Perkins in to
make the play loss yard that was a Harrell on the
carry who’s gonna take over rusty Bailey’s stepping down I’m telling you I
want to throw my hat in the ring let’s see you have any ideas about that yep
tongue if I could live and I don’t have to look into some real estate here well
now you gotta find a Riverside resident who you can kind of puppet but I
Terrance my parents I could have to move in with him but I’m not doing that again
RPO Bernie Bernie dancing gets to the outside
Bernie find some room on the sidelines and he will not stop touchdown but
Bernie 47 yard run on the bootleg boy got outside and but Bernie with
breakaway speed Berni with the touchdown he’s thrown for
two now run for one I think we’re gonna have to throw the
mayor out of here’s a little lap up here further
so Bernie we saw him with the run that sealed the win against King this is a
little bit early it’s in the first half so Polly’s offense starting to click
here PA T up and good 29:13 so Polly has really opened it up here in the second
quarter Bernie mix well he throws an
interception and then Polly gets the ball back another look at the
interception hope with a little bit of a run and now here’s the touchdown run by
Bernie eludes one defender that just gets to the outside and then it’s a
footrace and nobody’s going to catch him 29:13 Polly out in front Medina McGee Romero deep for a lakeside tour me the kickoff man for poly low
line drive kick scooped up by Romero Romero right up the middle
Romero tackled at the 35 yard line are you a day of the dead guy because
all not a big zombie guy hey don’t forget this Dia de los Muertos or Day of
the Dead returns Saturday November 2nd at white park in downtown Riverside from
1 to 10 p.m. 16th annual anniversary this traditional
Mexican festival is held to celebrate with food art music dance and most
importantly the beautiful decorated personalized altars honoring loved ones
that have passed for more information called 9 5 174 3 1 1 1 or Riverside Day
of the Dead calm a great event for everyone
November 2nd from 1 to 10 p.m. at white Park a lot of great events in the City
of Riverside Jeff OH every single week something’s going on
first intent from the 35 Pope throws to the outside that might have been a cross
up Medina was the man in the pattern incomplete somebody was not on the same
page going back to Alfonso Romero on the return I recently saw that Joker movie
and I had a little my little Twitter exchange between a couple of old
football coaches well they’re still coaching but they’re one of them’s not
Vinny Fazio and John Brant them got in a little bit of the movie action they did
because I was saying if you have a list of all-time great Joker’s and Joaquin
Phoenix is very good and Joker Cesar Romero’s got to be on the list but my
favorite we’ll get back to that second and 10 from the 35 McGee slashing up the
middle lunging forward finally comes down at about the 48 yard line first
down sticks move up no DirecTV mayor sorry yeah it’s got to
be young go to YouTube for us for us but tonight at 11:00 mayor I think channel
99 the mayor rusty Bailey asking us when he can catch the game later I’ve asked
him some tough questions at some point first intent from the 47 here’s the
throw incomplete Medina the intended receiver
second intent upcoming Holly did a nice job against Medina they obviously saw
him on film and they basically been in man covers on him they’ve done a pretty
good job just right over the top but Bernie had the coverage so Bernie playing some cornerback as
well but he’s going to be spelled by Seth Garcia the junior they rotate just
to keep him fresh second and ten here’s McGee and McGee will go down jake
Westover getting a little help from his buddy as well Westover playing the inside now the
Junior Cert comes down the smokestack he kind of forces McGee one way and then
bringing him down is Westover great play to set up third down a little bit of
urgency now for Lakeside they’re down two scores almost three it would be two
touchdowns and two two-point conversions for them to tie Polk back to throw
pressure here’s the screen McGee’s got some space McGee hurdles lamontagne into
the open field and finally wrestled down inside the 35 you will have a first down so McGee making it happen we mentioned
how good a receiver he is that was just a simple screenplay good call by Craig
Bell the offensive coordinator just kind of caught Riverside poly they’ve been
more aggressive in the best way you attack an aggressive defense sometimes a
little screen like that great screen great reverse pivot there
to catch the ball first and ten from the 32 lakeside driving now they can go back
to the bread-and-butter McGee between the tackles bought down by Luke Pruett
as he gets over the 30-yard line I’ll say this for an Owen 17 lakeside
has been game Jeff time out on the field and you know I was talking to John rice
and John rice was talking about how dangerous lakeside can be obviously
watched some North film yes is John Devine North legit team and and he said
listen I know I’m gonna sound like I’m Lou Holtz and me remember when Lou Holtz
was a coach at Notre Dame every team he was playing was the greatest tumblers
right or every team was the 72 corner editors but he made a great point and he
said I know their own seven but in our game at this level matchups make games
alive and he said just they match up well against us with what we do well
what Coach rice felt they could do against Lakeside is because Lake sign
has so many men on getting a look at John Rice playing both ways he said hey
if we can run the ball we can be physical we can maybe wear them down in
the fourth quarter so that way if it’s a close game we have the advantage in the
fourth quarter but I don’t think he can it on a couple of the big plays they’ve
gotten on offense a big run by Bud Bernie and a big pass completed by by
Bernie that’s right they’ve been fantastic here nearly 30 points in his
first half it’s pretty darn good second down from the poly 34 lakeside here’s
Pope pressure coming throw down the field
incomplete McGee the intended receiver had to get rid of it he had Ledbetter
bearing down on it great defensive coverage there no flag
son that was just great great defense by that secondary of the
Bears it’s a good angle here poke going back and then he kind of sensed the
pressure who launched the balm also pre the intended receiver in coverage was
Seth Garcia for poly both these teams been really hit by injuries so they’re
kind of banging now poly is talking to John rice and you know we’re finally
getting healthy we finally have everybody back as a mid 17 to play
timeout called on the play so lakeside uses that timeout hey you know what you
know what time of the year it’s October right that means it’s Halloween fest and
Saturday October 26 get those kids in costume and head down to white Park in
Riverside for Halloween fest for two to 10:00 p.m. there’s a costume contest I
could dress up the kids can dress up there’s a haunted trail a Kids Zone with
crafts and games Halloween vendors and a food and beer garden Halloween
festivities are $10 for adults and free for kids 14 and under that’s Saturday
October 26 from 2 to 10 p.m. at white Park and downtown Riverside I’ll be able
to make it because I’ll be with you calling an RCC game
Haven you can go afterwards it’s open till 10:00 I think we’ll be I think
we’ll be done by time nice price JC football will be there till like 2:00 in
the morning Magee kind of loses his footing but
stays up he kept the knee up so he’ll pick up a couple it’s a handout Pruitt again and on the play for a poly
along with Cal Fernandez looked like he was in on another timeout taken so it’s
fourth down timeouts can’t take him with you
lakeside now what was your favorite costume is a kid going up dressed up for
he knows a young young kid remember Ultraman great yeah I got I got I think
I was always like that my dad’s like what you may be Batman you might be
spider-man my brother was a spider-man guy and I always looked for the extra
extra you know angle on it I was old for men
one year and then I think like seventh grade it was when the Rubik’s Cube was
real big yes so I dressed up as a rubix I made my own Rubik’s Cube costume it’s
pretty good cos dressed up as a Rubik’s Cube yeah yeah nobody could solve me
Jeff no one they still can’t it’s all nobody can solve me but you know
Kayleigh we used to have every couple of years we used to do a game on Halloween
Riverside TV so back then I was you know kind of be all serious and professional
and now I’ve worked with you you taught me how to have fun if I were to do a
game on Halloween now I want to we could dress up you know we I would figure out
a theme and we could dress up like it could be show tonight I could be Tupac’s
like we could we could beat them I could be a perfect shit night look at my size
fourth and six Pope throwing screen here’s Magee dancing got the first down sometimes you worry about going to that
well one too many times because you figure the poly defense may shore up
against the screen but when you have a guy like McGee to account for he can
make plays and you’re your guy your playmakers need to do things for you in
these kind of situations nice job by McGee to pick up the first
down he’ll hand the ball right at the middle
to McGee McGee fighting inside of the 15 so a timeout left for the Bears they
actually were the ones that stopped the clock previously in hopes to get the
ball back so they could run the ball down the field but now sense of urgency
needed here as it ticks down to 30 second second and six you two think
they’ll have to take a shot at the end zone at some point Medina is split and
then they got a little early start no flag though Pope gonna throw hope in
trouble drops the football ball still loose no signal yet from the official
now they’ll say Poly football so kind of a double disaster there for Lakeside one
you don’t want to get your quarterback Zach at that point but you certainly
don’t want to turn the ball over now probably not much will come of it with
14 seconds here comes the pressure and Scouten was the one who stripped the
football the ball loose down there and west over looks like he was the one who
fell on it for a poly so first and ten from the 22 I would imagine
yeah there’s gonna go the V formation and just take the ball into the locker
room up 29 13 so burnheal just taken me and that’ll be it here for the first
half good first half for the Bears 29 13 but one touchdown that lakeside guy with
one of their two touchdowns set up by a turnover but the Bears offense in the
second quarter in particular Jeff looked pretty good look efficient very you know
there weren’t any giant mistakes but Bernie played smart football ran the
ball well found his targets found mile wide open found mouth wide open mm-hmm
and I’ll say they just played a fishing football on both ends of the field but
you got to say that lakeside played pretty darn wills yeah we started you
know we started we talked about Jason Harrell how he lead The X Factor and he
was the factor in the first quarter but and as the game developed two touchdown
passes for bud Bernie and 147 incredible 47 yard touchdown run you know we can’t
forget about how good bud Bernie is and what he’s able to have been able to
accomplish a three-year starter at quarterback and you know and Poly’s kind
of been up and down a little bit the last couple of years I thought last year
they’d find a turn they finally turned the corner a little bit was we’re
looking forward to what they would put together this year and it’s been kind of
win a game lose a game but now they’re healthy and they look to be playing well
and moving forward to trying to put a run together for the playoffs we have
nick rice down on the field I believe he’s got the lakeside ad with him and
we’ll jump down yeah we’re gonna jump down there also we’ll bring you part of
the coverage of the halftime show here at homecoming for poly and we’ll go down
to Nick rice right now thanks Bazaar here with the athletic
director from Lakeside High School and Scott Lawson that first half was
entertaining wasn’t it you know we put a few good plays together just couldn’t
keep it going but yeah it’s exciting football we’ll see what happens in
second half Lancer football in 2019 has been exciting what does Lancer football
look like in the future for Lakeside well we’re excited about the
opportunities moving forward I’m a new athletic director at the school we have
a new football coach trying to kind of change the culture of the program
getting the kids to buy in numbers were a little bit low just trying to build
the program hoping to finish the season strong we’ve had some competitive games
been in some games haven’t put two halves together now what’s great for me
to see is not just the football coaches but all the other coaches for other
sports have come out and that to me speaks about there’s a continuity and
there’s there’s a dedication to the program where we’re really trying to
create a culture here at the school getting people involved Casey Flannery
our baseball coach is here on the sidelines cheering the team on you know
and it’s just nice to have them over be out here and try to change the tradition
get some winning winning going at the school and as for the football program
as well in 2019 look can we take away from this team this year it’s a tough
season what we take away in a positive way well it’s just more about you know
winning is into everything we’re trying to develop the kids hold them
accountable get to get the grades in make them be good members of the
community and see what they can do to contribute to the school and then build
it up for that the winning can take place Scott’s really been a pleasure
getting to know you and get to know the lakeside team as the Lancers down to the
half we’ll see how they perform in the second half guys back to you thank you
thanks Nick that’s your halftime score homecoming here at King high school for
the poly bears they leave the Lancers 29 to 30 nor show you some of the
homecoming festivities here at halftime and then Jeff I and Nick will be back
for the second half here special Saturday edition of the CIF high school
football game of the week they’re announcing the homecoming court will
step aside for a little bit come back with the second half of action for you the Community Police Review Commission

departments I’m a fourth generation Riverside resident out of five
generations now my family is set roots here back in the 1900s and I’ve got a
connection Riverside so family and friends are here and it’s nice to give
back to the community that you’ve been brought up in so
if I were to describe my job in two words it would be uniquely awesome it’s
awesome I get to fly a helicopter and do something that I really enjoy doing at
the same time protecting and serving a community that I grew up in Plus novio says a Mexican market located
on Main Street not far from downtown Riverside the name means young male bull
which is typically used for its high quality meat albert Amarillo is the
owner being in the business for years and years almost 20 years in the City of
Riverside and always in Austin so I start working I
I always dream like one day I will have my own business
and since I’m being in Riverside for so many years I says well this is a good
opportunity so I asked a couple friends you know like and my brother hey this is
the opportunity of her life do we take it or not they’re like yes
call for the store features a good selection of fruits vegetables canned
goods meats and seafood there’s also several kinds of cheese salsa and
guacamole loyal customers who shop here say it’s because of their fresh food and
great customer service I hike at Mountain Rubidoux and I go here every
morning to buy a fresh ceviche it’s a great market they’re just gonna get
bigger and better so usually I’ll come in here to buy lunch but if I need
anything from my house I’ll you know any supplemental groceries I come in and I
buy everything freshmen Alberto says he trains his staff to treat customers like
family Mercedes Duran is one of his cashiers
just asking with how are you doing that makes a really big difference and just
being in a small market you kind of notice who who’s who and what are they
doing there sometimes I’ll even ask them like what are you cooking today I do
spaghetti are you doing cutting your father you know that’s makes difference
I wonder the people when they came I want that I feel like walking like oh
this is my house you know like this is family and that’s what I’ve wanted to
tell all my customers that they’re not just customers they’re guests
another guest they’re my guys they’re my my family all the time when they came if
I know their names I you know I tell them about their names and everything I
shake and all day long and I think they like
it my name is lovey Jung and I work for the
city oversight fire department I’ve been here for about seven years now and I’m a
firefighter/paramedic on engine one when I was younger I actually wanted to be a
firefighter but I ended up getting sidetracked and went and played softball
for the Olympic team in 2004 and 2008 and when I retired in 2009 that’s when I
decided I wanted to switch over to become a firefighter usually when I come
in the first thing I do is I check my personal protective equipment and then
I’ll also check the medical equipment being a paramedic I have to make sure
all my medications are there and that my equipments working properly so that when
we go on a scene to a medical aid that everything’s in working form and that
were professional on scene if I were to describe my job in one word it would be
adventurous every day is different from day to day depending on the training or
the type of calls that we run you know some days we might go on more duis or
some days we might go in more traffic accidents so every day that I come to
work is gonna be completely different from the day before and the next day
they get to work with a group of people that I enjoy working with and having
that camaraderie that I’ve missed from being an athlete but now being a mom I
just kind of I want to be that role model for my daughter to you know show
her you can be independent and you can have a job that you want to work in
whether it’s a male-dominated career or not and I want her to understand that
how she grows up we need to make sure our seniors are
safe with consistent proper nutrition and healthy foods delivered to their

lights popping up around Riverside and the Public Works Department wants you to
see how they work first of all you’ll notice the new left turn signals
consists of four lights a red arrow a solid yellow arrow a flashing yellow
arrow and a green arrow so how does traffic flow work with these new signals
first we have the left green arrow which indicates you have permission to turn
left but oncoming traffic must stop a solid yellow arrow indicates that the
light is about to turn red and you must be prepared to stop or if you’re already
in the intersection complete your turn when safe
a solid red arrow means you must stop no left-hand turns are allowed when the
signal changes to a flashing yellow arrow turns are still permitted however
you must yield to oncoming traffic and pedestrians before proceeding with your
turn these new signals are being introduced nationwide and represent a

about to start Jeff Gorham alongside Nick rice on the sidelines our entire
award-winning Riverside TV crew 29:13 that’s how the scoring started with 8:28
to play in the first quarter Harrell with the touchdown run McGee came right
back for a lakeside to drag a tackler over the end line and they tried this
ill-fated two-point conversion at that point it was 7 to 6 being favored of
poly and then watched this even Tijerina catches it at about the 40 and then
nobody’s gonna stop him he saunters to pay dirt to make it a 14-6 game and then
trying a little trickeration didn’t quite work out Brodie Brown loses the
football here the fumble is picked up by lakeside setting them up first and ten
from the 25 yard line and the drive ends with Jalen Magee taking it over for his
second touchdown of the game to make it 1413 and then poly took over Zach ma had
one long reception and then he caught the ball for the touchdown and here’s
Ethan LaMontagne we don’t know if it’s designed or a broken play either way he
gets the two-point conversion to make it a 20 to 13 game than a turnover nice
catch by Medina but then Westover punches it out it’s fallen on by Michael
Burt Riverside Poly with the football and then Bud Merrin does the rest 47
yard touchdown run for the senior quarterback gets the ball to the end
zone and that’s how the first half and then with poly leading it 29:13
homecoming festivities at halftime widow announce the homecoming king for
Riverside Paula Anthony Chadha homecoming queen for
Riverside Poly Chloe McKay it was an awesome halftime
and I was riveted and glued to the field what a great time though but a very
great good football game we have here so far here’s the big question
in the big cheerleading contest did you vote for Marsha did you vote for
Jennifer perfect you vote for Pat I always go Marsha you always go Marsha
okay let’s see what Nick rice would say to that Nick rice downstairs has
something for us thanks to zoom here with Ryan Railsback
the public information director for Riverside police and you’ve got a whole
lot going on in terms of not just this football teams in this game tonight but
also online the city all the different events yeah we were involved in a lot of
things lately and October is usually a busy month in fact on October 30th
Wednesday we’re having our annual trunk-or-treat events so that’s going to
be in front of our police station downtown on Orange Street between 10th
and 12th streets from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. it’s a fun time we’re going to have
other law enforcement out there the Highway Patrol and the roofs like County
Sheriff’s Department I think RCC police bunch of cars a ton
of candy a lot of fun activities for the kids a nice safe place to bring your
kids for some candy you know for Halloween
write that down your calendar folks October 30th meanwhile this football
game what’s your what’s your thoughts about these two teams well it looks like
you know pretty pretty good game so far of course you know we’re biased to our
home down here with group site poly so we’re hoping that they pull this out we
think we’re confident that they will looks pretty good so far
I’d certainly appreciate your time Ryan and looking forward to the rest of the
second half and let’s go on Ramon Riverside here for the next couple of
weeks guys back to you returns you saw went back to about the 1
came out to the 23 channel in the game and Romero limping off the field for
lakeside so lakeside starts at the ball in the second half down to 29 13 a big
blow to them they weren’t able to put the ball in the end zone late in the
first half they were in the red zone and turned the ball over yeah as we see here
on the return was he how he got hurt can be cut his ankle yeah it’s trying to
hold off Zack mom from the 23 lakeside first and 10 they’ll feed Magee he runs
into some resistance immediately and his pulled down maybe a one-yard gain on the
play coming up in making the play Pruitt was there had some help now there’s no
55 on the roster I’m wondering if Serta who normally wears 35 just wearing 55 okay he’s not because there’s a 35 also
on the field give again to Magee try the right side up to about the 28 third and
5 up coming yeah McGee has been the workhorse for the Lancers entire first
half let’s see if he can continue to carry that load against that very very
physical defensive front of the Bears so caught
third and along for Poly defense once they settled in Jeff played pretty well
in that first half McGee was kind of gashing I mean they made an adjustment
and been able to kind of hold him at bay hope to the outside finally completes
one should be enough for the first down a little bit under thrown but Jacob
mantle Perry went down and got the football sticks move up just had the
mayor tapped me on the shoulder so it got him in here and interviewed him talk
about the bear I’m gonna ask tough questions though Jeff that’s tough
questions he’s used to it from the 36 you know I’m the alderman
first continue heat you are the de-facto alderman Lionel Perkins for that to the
far side so he’s a defensive guy with they got him on offense now and in the
Far slot that’s McGee watch him look like they’re gonna come to Medina but
now Pope will take off to the 40 pile drive down to the 43 Luke Pruett on the
stop seven-yard pickup on first down the Cota Pope though is a prototypical
football player out there he makes big plays at the right time opportune times
very cerebral on the field reminds me remember Scott frost when he played for
Nebraska mining literally also plan on defense when frost got in the NFL use of
safety second and three line the 42 for
Lakeside they trail 29 13 first drive of the third quarter and McGee finds some
space McGee to the open field McGee no sleep until pay dirt for Jalen
McGee a 58-yard touchdown run and how about that for the first drive of the
second half for the lakeside Lancers I don’t think the legs are tired there
I’ll tell you what McGee is continuing where he left off and that’s where he
left off was running the football and he’s been dominant for the Lancers and
it’s interesting what happened on the play is we get another look at it trying
to chase him down his scoot and he can’t get it Bernie the last line of defense
and McGee will get right by him point after attempt on the field place kicker
is Carlos Cruz for lakeside so they’ve missed a two-point conversion earlier
the Bears have converted on a two-point conversion so still if the p80 goes
through and it does still a two score game 29:20 after the p80 will go down
and nick rice on the sidelines thanks cuz all so you had mentioned
throughout that previous drive about the poly defense and in certain instances
they had been improved over the course of the year during the second quarter
and at halftime head coach John Rice had implored about his team for a lack of
efforts certain defenders were walking through plays and we’re taking plays off
which was a huge concern for head coach Don Rice and lakeside they’ve got
nothing to lose in tonight’s game are they’re playing with their tails off and
they are really playing maybe their best game of the year a team averaging only
14 a game they’ve got 20 on the board right now with an entire fourth quarter
to go guys back to you thanks Nick and you know coaches by nature are always
gonna point out what you’re doing wrong as crews onside kick takes the hop a
loose do we have a signal and lakeside has it
Perkins has the recovery look like maja and the ball squirted
loose and Perkins look what I found and lakeside in business at midfield big
play but getting back to the point we make is when you’re playing a team and
we meant just the outset and John rice told us to me when I spoke to him on
Tuesday you don’t want the Olin 7 team to get healthy against you let them get
their win against somebody else and if you’re not playing hard that’s part of
the reason these kinds of things happen we just saw today Wisconsin that’s right
big upset against Illinois happens at every level so the Jets knock off the
Cowboys last week McGee right up the middle and that see the
other thing now is the offensive line offensive linemen love to run block Jeff
because that’s just about knocking the snot out of somebody that’s right house
blocking is more technique in hand use and if you if they can just tee off on
you so scouting with the tackle let’s pan Toya hurdling to the 41 on a nine
yard pickup second in short for Lakeside so McGee’s getting a break here’s Pam
Toya taking this one he’ll rip up the middle again and this is lamontagne will
upend him 32 yard line but a first down sticks move up the Lancers were really
kind of getting in a groove offensively here and that’s the one thing as a coach
you can’t be you can’t really teach effort you can’t it’s got to be that guy
that you look at look to in the mirror every morning when you wake up that’s
just something you’ve got to play with this pride that’s not on coach rice or
Coach Powell that’s on the Bears to see if they can play with a little bit of
pride here pantalla again picking his way on the right side to the 25-yard
line close to another first down and the other thing this does a lot of guys play
both ways for lakeside if you’re keeping the defense off the field you don’t have
to exert know the level of energy you do because you know where you’re going on
offense and the offensive line doing a great job the right side of that line
moving guys around that’s Martinez and Santee so they’re running behind on the
right side for Lakeside second and three the 26 both of them are juniors
McGhee first down and pushes forward to the 17-yard line I always wonder about
that and listen I don’t want to go crazy but sometimes I remember growing up
coaches never wanted players to be part of the whole homecoming thing because
they’re not in the locker room at halftime and takes their focus we not
that’s what’s happening here but it’s a whole this is 16th annual
there’s gonna be art Aztec dancers altars that represent the lost loved
ones dance performances food Katrina pageant live music it’s at white
park in downtown Riverside November 2nd from 1 to 10 p.m. go to Riverside Day of
the Dead calm for more information what I find interesting is I was talking to
James Sadler of land of lakeside he felt the passing game was kind of was gonna
even the scales from it’s been the run tonight for the Lancers it has been the
run that’s been all run Smash Mouth football first intent from the 17 McGee
again McGee sir yes sir he’s in command 17
yard touchdown run and I’ll tell you what when he gets when
he wants to get somewhere he finishes and we’ve seen it I think he had a
touchdown in the first half was on actually in the one-yard line but man he
can get paydirt McGee his fourth touchdown of the night 11 yards
1 yard 58 yards 17 yards and here’s Cruz for the p80 and it’s a 29:27 game so the two-point
conversion scored by LaMontagne is now the difference in this ball game and
I’ll tell you what lakeside has really outplayed the Bears here for most of
this game you know lakeside you know and Polly’s
been hurt and when we talked to John rice before the game is that you know
we’re finally getting healthy lakeside Jeff they had to cancel their
JV season because they just don’t have enough guys to run out there to run a JV
squad and you know coaches like to have that JV option available for some of
their junior guys in particular to get some reps maybe who are not regular
players but get a couple of reps on a Thursday and then you ready to play on a
Friday as well yeah and you sometimes you find a diamond you find a guy that
