Michael Maguire keen to see Stacey Jones succeed him “at some stage”

Kiwi head coach Michael Maguire
wants his assistant coach, Stacey Jones, to fill his position,
just not right away. Te Rina Kowhai spoke
to ‘The Little General’ about being groomed
for the head coaching role. Some of league’s biggest
coaching names giving their knowledge
to local Kiwi coaches. And there’s an opportunity
for a player who has become a coach. The respect is mutual though
for these two. Earlier in the year, Michael Maguire
nominated ‘The Little General’ to take the reins
for the Maori All-Stars side. With over half of the current
Kiwi rugby league team being of Maori descent, asked whether he would like
to see heritage games against teams from the Pacific. For ‘The Little General’,
it’s about the job at hand with the Kiwi rugby league team, who haven’t won
against Great Britain since 98′ when Jones played. Growth in leaders
means growth in the sport. Te Rina Kowhai, Te Karere.
