New Old Dominion football stadium continues to take shape

CHECK OUT THESE EXCLUSIVE SHOTS TAKEN TODAY FROM CHOPPER 10. IT HAS BEEN PLANNED FOR YEARS, AND FINALLY THE NEW SB BALLARD STADIUM ON THE CAMPUS OF OLD DOMINION IS STARTING TO BECOME A REALITY. AND IT REALLY LOOKS NICE. I’M BRUCE RADER, IT WAS ALMOST THREE YEARS AGO WHEN THE ODU BOARD OF VISITORS APPROVED A PLAN TO REBUILD SB BALLARD STADIUM INTO A STATE-OF-THE-ART FOOTBALL STADIUM. NOW, LESS THAN FOUR MONTHS FROM COMPLETION EVERYTHING IS STARTING TO TAKE SHAPE. AND NATHAN EPSTIEN JOINS US FROM NORFOLK TONIGHT TO SHOW US THE PROGRESS. BIGGER AND BETTER—- (“THIS DEFINITELY HAS A WOW FACTOR. IT’S GOING TO BE A TREMENDOUS HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE FOR US. CAPACITY AT THE NEWLY RENOVATED SB BALLARD STADIUM WILL JUMP FROM 19 TO MORE THAN 22 THOUSAND, AND EVERY MONARCH FAN WILL BE CLOSER TO THE ACTION. IT’S GOING TO BE HIGHER UP, IT’S ALUMINUM NOW, INSTEAD OF BRICK, WHICH IS GOING TO BE LOUDER. A LOUDER, MORE ELECTRIC ATMOSPHER IS ONLY GOING TO JUMP-START AN EVER IMPROVING OLD DOMINION DEFENSE. WE’VE HAD THAT PREVIOUSLY HERE. WE HAD IT IN THE VIRGINIA TECH GAME LAST YEAR WHEN IT GOT LOUD. WELL, IMAGINE NOW THAT IT’S GOING TO BE EVEN LOUDER WITH THIS STADIUM, WHICH IS REALLY EXCITING. BUT FOR SOME OF MONARCH NATION, EMBRACING THE FUTURE MEANS MOVING ON FROM A RICH PAST THAT INCLUDED CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS, RECORD GAMES, AND HISTORIC UPSETS. SOMETIMES MODERN ISN’T ALWAYS BETTER. I LIKE THE OLD LOOK, BUT THE NEW LOOK IS DEFINITTELY GOING TO BE NICER AMENITIES. WITH THE NEW LOOK WILL COME A BRAND NEW VIDEO BOARD, STATE OF THE ART SCOREBOARD— IT’S JUST GORGEOUS. AND THEY’RE WONT BE A BAD SEAT IN THE NEW HOUSE. THERE’S NO BAD VIEWING ANGLES IN HERE. EVERYTHING’S KIND OF TAILORED TOWARDS LOOKING ONTO THE FIELD. IT’S JUST BEAUTIFUL. IT’S A LONG TIME COMING. GRANTED, HAD SOME GOOD MEMORIES AT THE OLD STADIUM, BUT LOOKING FORWARD TO THE MEMORIES THAT CAN BE MADE HERE. THIS IS OUR FUTURE, AND I THINK THE FUTURE IS REALLY BRIGHT. AND THE FUTURE BECOMES THE PRESENT, WHEN THE MONARCHS OPEN UP AUGUST 31ST AGAINST NORFOLK STATE. IN NORFOLK, NATHAN EPSTIEN FOR THE SPORTSWRAP.
