Hi. My name is Kenny Saylors. I’m here on
expertvillage.com to teach you how to understand the great game of American football. There
is a line around that encompasses the entire field. That is what we call the sideline and
it runs down the side. And then we have these lines that cut across the field every 5 yards.
These are called yard lines. Now, you’ll notice that they cross the field every 5 yards, however,
only every 10 yards are numbered and that is just the typical way of how it’s done.
It would be too crowded I guess if you had every yard line marked. So, as you can see,
it’s numbered 10, 20, 30, 40, and then there’s the 50 yard line which is the center of the
field. And most often there is the little emblem in the middle of the team, whichever
team is the home field, they’ll have their little logo right there in the middle. So,
10, 20, 30, 40, 50 — when it gets to the center of the field then it begins to go down
40, 30, 20, 10 and then you’re down to the goal line. And what we call the goal line
is what you call right here, the line that is the final line before you get into the
end zone where you make the touchdown.
